Thanks for passing along the crappy weather news about Ontario. No matter how well things are going here, I always feel a little better when I hear how miserable it is back up North. Although I'll be back up North (not as far as you!) next winter... I hope things are going well back in the land-of-those-who-work-for-a-living. 123D. Is that you folks? I came across it on FB recently. It looks awesome. Really crappy winter here in Ontario this year. Wish I was down where you are. Pictures look awesome. Thanks for reading the blog! The camera...Hi Thor. Thanks for reading the blog! The camera is a mainly a Canon 20D, sometimes I use my little Canon SD300. Both of the cameras are around 7 years old. The smaller one also takes video and is 4MP, the 20D is 8MP. Canon has much newer cameras out now, and they would be awesome...but these two are still working. The 20D is a DSLR and I have a few lenses for it. I mainly use either my 17-40mm 4.0L or my 70-200mm 4.0L. They are both nice lenses, but there are probably lots out there which would do just as good of a job. The one trick that I am using is that I have circular polarizing filters for both of the 20D lenses. Polarizing filters are awesome and I highly recommend them for all outdoor shots. Its how I get the sky and water to look decent. Most of the shots use the polarizing filter.

I'll try to post before I leave, it will depend somewhat on where I am and how the connectivity is. I'll probably try to update the blog a few times while I'm out, using my SSB and modem.Craig McPheetershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17160860716380052097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-771846614369587770.post-59484376277744432912012-02-29T09:22:09.808-08:002012-02-29T09:22:09.808-08:00First off thanks for keeping this blog! Look forward to hearing more as you prepare and depart for the trip to Hawaii! He and his wife Christy write in blog.svhelloworld.com. They are in Seattle, staying in Shilshole.

Hi Elena. Thanks for your comments re: the blog, I'm glad you're enjoying it. The Hawaii trip preparations are fairly minor at this point. I'll inspect the rig before I leave, but the boat has been flawless. I'll refuel, finish off a few projects, inventory my provisions and go buy more of what I need. But compared to the folks who are heading to the south Pacific, my provisioning is pretty easy. Those folks may not come across a major supermarket for a number of months. I have one waiting for me in Hilo! I'm reviewing my celestial navigation, reading weather books - but I'm close to being ready. I'll be heading to Hilo on the big island. Cabo San Lucas to Hilo is roughly 2500 miles - call that something like 3 weeks? I'll provision for 4 to 5 weeks (with extra rice/beans/pasta that would last well beyond that.)

I'm looking forward to the passage! Now I just need to finish off the varnishing, polishing etc and get this boat on the road :-)Craig McPheetershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17160860716380052097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-771846614369587770.post-39629311447482988802012-02-25T07:35:33.634-08:002012-02-25T07:35:33.634-08:00I"m enjoying the blog entries so much.
